Letters to Strangers (L2S) is a global youth-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit seeking to destigmatize mental illness and increase access to affordable, quality treatment for youth aged 13 to 24*. We want mental health made personal, because each person deserves to be treated as the individual they are. No one's identity should be buried beneath statistics. Indeed: often there is nothing greater than a person-to-person human connection.

Who are we?

About L2S

Write a Letter Event

In partnership with Letters to Strangers, an award-winning non-profit organization that seeks to destigmatize mental health and forge new connections, we will be accepting anonymous letter submissions from December 1st - 31st*. Instead of physical gifts, this year we’re hoping to give the gift of love and empathy through an anonymous letter exchange.

*Letters submitted before December 19 will be considered for public reading and sharing during the Gen Z Holiday Roundtable event, so make sure to submit early if you’d like a chance to be featured!

Other letters that are submitted after the event or are not featured publicly will be sent anonymously in the exchange, which will prioritize underserved communities. Let’s all spread a little more love and joy this year. Don’t forget to follow letter guidelines to make sure your letter is accepted! Learn more in the section below.

Step 1: Click "Start Here"

First things first - you’ll need an account! Simply click the "Sign Up/Log In" buttons on the top right and create your account using your email or Google account.

Step 2: Enter the Chapter ID - GenZHG2020

When you’re setting up your account profile, enter in our specific chapter ID.

Uploading a profile picture is optional, but the most important thing is that you enter the correct chapter ID!

Step 3: Check "For Chapter Exchange" and upload your file!

Once you’re done writing your letter, upload it to the website on the page you see to the right! This is very important - make sure you check “for chapter exchange” so we can make sure it gets to someone who needs it most.

Step 4: Submit and you're done!

This is the most exciting part! You’re nearly done - make sure you’ve followed all writing guidelines, and now all you have to do now is submit! Thanks for participating.

After we receive your letters, we’ll sort through them to make sure all guidelines are met and then set you up with your exchange! Your letters will be sent to underserved communities that need that extra love and care the most during this unprecedented holiday season. If you submit before December 19, you’ll have a chance of having your letter featured in the Gen Z Holiday Roundtable event, where Diana Chao, founder and CEO of Letters to Strangers, will be reading a select few letters out loud.

But for us, it doesn’t just end there. Through our discussions and your letter submissions, we’ll be working on identifying key actions that we need to focus on in 2021 as we recover from this pandemic and build a better future for us all.

So, what comes next?

So what are you waiting for? Write a letter today

and spread some love and joy!
